the loud couch. 2021
---
When I was around 4 years old, I told my aunt she looked like an armchair. I was told that
it was not polite. I did not understand what was offensive in my observation. Later on, in
my practice, I started making objects that were more of characters than of objects. ‘The
loud couch’ is based on my grandma. She is a strong Russian woman whose presence in
a space is hard to not notice. I remember laying on her big belly as a kid, feeling safe and
careless. Her belly was soft, yet stiff, just like this couch.
